My name is Bobby, and I’m the founder of Duology. In my years tutoring for the SAT and ACT, I’ve helped over 500 students achieve their goal scores. Despite leaving a trail of satisfied clients, I started feeling like my students weren’t actually achieving their potential, often leaving 100 or more points on the table. I could help students grasp complex ideas, but by the next day, their memories were hazy, and they couldn’t apply the lessons in a testing environment. “Drills” weren’t enough. “Practice” materials weren’t enough. There’s no shortage of practice problems online, but they didn’t seem to reinforce the concepts that I wanted students to master. The problems would drill a mechanical method that could be easily memorized, but they wouldn’t drill the fundamental understanding that’s needed for flexible problem-solving.

I decided to build the perfect extension of myself, infusing my own time-tested methods and experience into adaptive learning software that could pick up exactly where I left off at the end of a session. I would teach and the software would reinforce, not just drilling the mechanics of a particular problem type but drilling the right mode of thinking. I programmed it to ask the questions that I would always ask my students, nudging a student into problem-solving mode and teaching them to think independently. The results spoke for themselves. Students not only started scoring beyond initial hopes, but their retention also improved, dramatically reducing the total time needed for test prep.

Despite the title of "private" tutor, I no longer feel like I am teaching alone. I attribute my students' success to the powerful pairing of man and machine. This dynamic duo can teach better than I ever could alone, so I founded a company to advance and implement the future of learning: Duology.
